For over four decades, Robyn Flans has been a significant voice in the music industry, bringingthe stories of legendary celebrities to the forefront of the entertainment world. Robyn's journey began in the late '70s, when she was assigned to review a Chicago concert at the iconic Greek Theatre for Billboard Magazine. This experience sparked an idea that set the stage for an extraordinary career. Eager to delve into the world of drumming, Robyn reached out to Modern Drummer Magazine with a bold proposition: an interview with Chicago's drummer, Danny Seraphine. The magazine agreed, and in 1978, Robyn's first article for Modern Drummer was published, marking the beginning of a prolific career that would span 40 years. Throughout her career, Robyn had the privilege of interviewing some of the most influential drummers in music history. Her portfolio includes conversations with legends like Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, Vinnie Colaiuta, Earl Palmer, Levon Helm, Roger Hawkins, Charlie Watts, Louie Bellson, and Ed Shaughnessy. Her deep connection with the drumming community and her ability to capture the essence of these artists in her writing made her a trusted and respected figure in the industry. Robyn's contributions extend beyond the world of drumming. She has covered major events such as the Emmys and Oscars for People Magazine, interviewing a host of Hollywood's elite, including Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, and Kevin Costner. Her versatility as a journalist is evident in her work for other publications like In Touch, Mix, and Country Weekly, where she interviewed a wide array of celebrities, including Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phil Collins, Paul McCartney, Billy Bob Thornton, and Garth Brooks. Robyn also co-authored a book with Ed Shaughnessy, further cementing her role as a key figure in documenting drumming history. Her passion for Jeff Porcaro, another drumming legend, led her to write two books: "It's About Time" in 2020 and "Moments in Time" in 2024. These works are a testament to her dedication to preserving the legacy of drummers who have shaped the sound of modern music. Currently, Robyn serves as the Director of Collaborations and Outreach at Future Youth Records, a nonprofit record label dedicated to producing young artists who promote social justice. This role is a dream come true for Robyn, who has long admired those she interviewed who could make a difference. At Future Youth Records, Robyn is able to fulfill her desire to impact the world by helping young artists in their careers and providing them with a platform to champion change.
